BEATING THE SPORTS BOOK
There are two ways to beat any casino game, sports book
included:
1- Pick more winners than losers.
2- Bet more on winning bets
and less on losing bets.
The first way is simply overcoming the house
edge or vig. Because you must bet 11 to win 10 (on most bets) you must
pick 53% winners to break even. Picking 54-60% to show a profit is
certainly attainable - the Trendbetting.com All Star picks hit about
60-62% with fluctuations between 50 to 70 percent - but consistently
picking more than 65-70% is simply unrealistic and things become even
more difficult if you go through a cold spell.
For example: Lets say
you made 100 bets this month betting -110 everytime and picked 45
winners, 55 losers. You would have a negative $1550 ($4500 in wins
minus $6050 losses equals a loss of $1550). If you continue to flat bet
the same amount on every game then the next month your picks must jump
to 60 winners 40 losers to get back to even (+$6000 - $4400 = plus
$1600) a very big task.
This is the challenge of flat betting and how
most sports bettors go broke.
The second way is the better method. Bet
more when winning and less when losing. Unfortunately most players do
just the opposite. During a cold spell when the bankroll is dwindling,
they increase their bets trying to get "even". Do NOT raise your bets
when losing. Decrease your bets or quit for a while until the Trends
come back your way. Only when you are on a roll should you increase
your bets.
The most effective way to beat the sportsbook is a
combination of 1 and 2. You need to be able to properly handicap
matchups and pick more winners than losers, but you also must have the
discipline and flexibility to adjust your betting amounts with the
current Trends.
Bet more when winning and less when losing. It can be
boiled down to money management and discipline and it is the essence of
Trendbetting.
BET SMALLER WHEN LOSING
Discipline is a must in sports betting. Do not chase
losses by betting higher. Sports betting is a streaky endeavor and when
you get into a cold streak you must protect your bankroll by cutting
down the size of your wagers or even stop betting for a day. This way
you will keep your bankroll intact for the inevitable hot streak. And
it is during that upcoming hot streak that you can bet more with less
risk (including the ease of wagering "the houses money").
By doubling
down your bet after a loss you are risking more at the worst possible
time, plus its your hard earned bankroll that your suiciding as opposed
to "won" money.
BET BIGGER WHEN WINNING
Bet bigger when winning and take advantage of hot streaks.
Sports betting is a 50/50 proposition and if you bet the same amount
all the time your wins are cancelled out by your losses. Flat betting
is just spinning the wheels and you will be chewed up by the vig.
You
must bet bigger when winning but it must be under control. Never just
"let it ride", go up in your bets by percentages so that you don't pick
a winner then pick a loser but have a bottom line loss of money.
Betting all a days profit on one game is counterproductive, especially
when you have been on a very hot streak and picked 3 or 4 straight
winners.
KNOW WHEN THE PARTY IS OVER
Recognize when the hot streak is over and bank as much of
that win as you can. The only way to win at any form of gambling is to
quit when you are ahead. Don't kid yourself by saying "its only a
temporary blip and my winning streak will just continue on the next
game". Even if you think that is true you should still lower your bets,
and if you still have the hot hand you can go right back up on your
bets. If your wrong and the streak is over, the loss is smaller and you
continue to lower your bets even more.
