PASS

When considering a game with no real Trend either way you should consider watching the game just for the enjoyment of the competition. There is no need to have action on every scheduled game and when you are risking real money you always want to have an edge and not be in a coin toss situation. Unless you have a very good reason to make a wager, just pass on the game. If you want to bet on the game any way take a look at the over/under or consider a teaser play.
Better yet, when you can't find a betting edge in a game that you are going to watch, use it as an opportunity to study both teams without a rooting bias either way. By studying the teams without money at risk, you can be an objective observer and gain valuable information on each sides abilities, patterns and habits. Use the game to form better opinions for future games involving the two teams and you do have money on the line.

LOOK AT THE OVER/UNDER

If there is no Trend for either team, the over/under is sometimes the smarter bet and allows you to root for both teams, either both offenses or both defenses. There are teams whos game plan and coaching style results in consistent high or consistent low scores and when the team is not in a bet on or bet against trend look for an edge in the over/under numbers . POINTSPREAD VALUE

Look for and shop for pointspreads that favor the side you want to bet. If you like the underdog in a football game and can get a line of +3.5 or +7.5 then you are in a good position because many games end on 3 and 7. You are in a favorable position to win because your underdog team could win outright or lose by just a field goal or by a touchdown to cover. If it is the favorite you want to bet, lines of -6.5 and -2.5 or less puts you in a better position and less likely to have a straight up win but a loss against the spread.
In many close games that have a point spread of 3 or 7 it is worth laying the extra juice to buy off those numbers. In a close game you can get a significant advantage when you buy off 3 and get -2.5 or +3.5 on the favorite and the underdog respectively. When the line is 7 and you buy off down to -6.5 or up to +7.5 you put yourself in a position to win more bets because a close game often ends on a field goal or a touchdown.

DEFENSE

One of the most important points in handicapping any matchup is to take a good look at the defense. When you find a defensive mismatch then bet on the team with the better stop unit. If the better defense is the favorite, you should limit the amount of points you will lay to - 7 at home - 3 on the road. If the team with the better defense is the dog you have a good opportunity but first look for reasons to pass on the game or pick up a few more points by betting them in a teaser.

TEASER STRATEGY

When you are picking a game with no real Trend, the additional points in a teaser bet can make a big difference. There are 2 situations where teaser points come in very handy. First, when you can capture a lot of the key numbers (3, 4, 6, 7) and secondly when you can push up the underdog points to more than 2 touchdowns.
When you have a favorite of - 8.5 and can move the pointspread down to - 2.5 you have captured all the key numbers and are more likely to win ATS if the favorite wins straight up. The same thing applies to a line of +1.5 because you can apply the teaser and be getting +7.5, again capturing all the key numbers. When you like a strong favorite but have to lay -11 it is not a good position to be in. Your team could win by a touchdown and a field goal and still not cover. Taking some of those points off with a teaser and get that -11 down to a - 5 makes a big difference. You get inside the key 7 and 6 numbers making it less likely to win the game straight up but lose ATS.
If you like an underdog and can push a +4.5 line up to +10.5 you are in a very strong position and taking a +8.5 dog up to +14.5 is awesome! Being able to start an NFL game with a 2 touchdown lead is a huge advantage. The complete Trendbetting teaser strategy is available in the members area.
