TRENDS DOMINATE
Trendbetting theory is simple: you will win in the long
run by following the dominant Trend. You will lose in the long run if
you buck the dominant Trend.
This is Lucky Lance Williams and for many years I have observed that Trends
dominate in sports. In every sport you will see several teams each
season that go on a streak of wins or a streak of losses. In the NFL
there are good teams that will go 4, 5, 6 wins in a row or more. There
are also bad teams that will lose 6 or 8 or 10 games straight. During
basketball and the long baseball season there are teams that win a
dozen games in a row, and it is common for bad teams (like the 2005
Kansas City Royals) that lose 10, 15, or 20 straight games.
Take the
example of a coin flip. A flipped coin coming up on heads or tails is a
50/50 proposition. If you toss a coin 1000 times you will get about 500
heads and 500 tails, but you also can expect a series of back to back
heads or tails at least 100 times and 3 straight flips of heads or
tails will
happen at least 67 times. In the course of all those flips there
will be 4 or more consecutive flips of heads or
tails 30 to 40 times, 5 or more straight will come up 14 to 18 times, 6
or more will happen
at least a dozen times, 7 or more straight flips will come 8 to 10
times, 8 or more straight will happen 4 or 5 times, 9 straight should
happen 2 or 3 times and 10 straight flips of heads or tails should
happen at least once. This is based on the laws of probability.
Catching on and cashing in on these repeating sequences is the basis of
my handicapping system.
When you look for and bet on the current Trends it is
less like gambling on a team and more like looking at a stock chart
that is moving up and investing your money in that company. Now
obviously anything can happen both in the stock market and in the game
and you definitely are gambling on the outcome, but when you isolate
situations where one team has an edge then you are going to win over
the long run.
BET ON TREND
Bet-on Trends tend to be easy to identify as these teams are
usually the glamorous, star-driven league leaders and are normally the
favorite. Be cautious however and don't simply bet every super team,
because you will usually be laying too many points. Remember, it is
against the spread result that counts!
You do want to back teams on a
strong winning Trend but you need to pick your spots carefully. Be very
selective in your wagering, don't bet every game and don't bet a game
just because you are a fan of one of the teams. There might be only 1
or 2 games that day worth risking your money on. Memorize this: "Only
risk your bankroll when you have the best of it".
BET AGAINST TREND
There are many reasons why a team goes into a slump and it can happen
at any time. It doesn't matter if they are a bottom of the barrel,
middle of the pack or even an elite team, they all can have a bad run
against the spread. Betting against a team that has above average
talent but has not been covering the spread is a very strong
'bet-against' strategy. If your side is the favorite you wont be giving
up too much, and often in this situation your team will be getting the
points.

Most of the time there is no definitive bet-on or bet-against Trend, a
team will win one, lose two, win two, lose one, win one etc. Teams on a
chopping Trend are nuetral as far as Trendbetting goes, but you can
often find an edge in the over/under betting or by putting the game in
a teaser bet. You should only risk your bankroll when you have an edge,
so just pass on chopping teams most of the time. If you do bet them you
want to go conservative, take a good look at the teams getting the
points and definitely bet small.
