The PGA Tour arrives at Pebble Beach this week, which affords us an opportunity to watch the pros battle a trio of challenging courses, as well as daunting weather conditions. The matchups and odds* for Round 1 were released earlier today. Here are a couple matchups that stuck out to me as good opportunities to beat the books.
Patrick Reed ML (-135) over Pat Perez
Perez hit the top 10 at Pebble Beach in 2014 and 2015, but withdrew from last week’s Waste Management open with a lingering shoulder injury.
Reed logged a 65 on Sunday in last year’s event and has finished 13th or better in three of his four career starts at Pebble Beach.
Dustin Johnson ML (-109) over Jordan Speith
Johnson won back to back at Pebble Beach in 2009 and 2010, finished 2nd in 2014 and 4th in 2015. Speith has been hot lately, but this is clearly DJ’s track.
A strong lean: Kevin Kisner has been playing well consistently this year and plays well on courses with small greens, like the ones at Pebble Beach. I like him at +125 to take out Gary Woodland.
