The Twins lost their day off on Thursday due to rain on Wednesday but it was worth it to stick around in Chicago. The Twins beat the White Sox 7-6 to move three games over .500.
A Miguel Sano solo homer made it 6-0 in the second. The Twins would only score once more, in the fifth but it was enough to hold on. Phil Hughes only got 14 outs so he wasn’t eligible for the win. The bullpen shut it down after his departure.
In his first six starts, Ervin Santana gave up one run three times and no runs three times, 16 hits in 41 innings and went 5-0.
His seventh start against Boston was a different story. Santana gave up six runs in six innings, including four home runs. His ERA went up by more than a run and the loss was his first of the season.
He threw six innings of one-run ball in his only other start against the Indians this season. That was the only start that he didn’t win, before his loss on Sunday.
The Indians did get Thursday off and Josh Tomlin starts the first game against Minnesota.
Tomlin has found a bit of a rhythm after a rocky first two starts of the season that had his ERA near 20. He’s averaged six innings and just under three earned runs allowed in the four starts since then, winning twice and losing once.
That improvement began with a start in Minnesota, where Tomlin was the winner in an 11-4 Cleveland romp. He went six innings and allowed three earned runs in that game.

Free Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Indians MLB Prediction: Indians begin the weekend with a win.
Santana is due for some regression, which kicked in last weekend. His numbers are still superior to Tomlin’s but that doesn’t mean much going forward. I like Cleveland at home.
