Money Line: Baltimore Orioles -125 | Texas Rangers +115
The Texas Rangers are hosting the Baltimore Orioles in this American League showdown. The Rangers haven’t had a great season thus far. They’re in third place in the AL West, 18 games behind the division-leading Houston Astros. The Orioles have also struggled. The O’s are seven games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East standings. Which one of these clubs will improve their record with a win on Saturday in the Lone Star State?
Orioles fall in game one
The Baltimore Orioles came up short in an 8-2 loss to the Texas Rangers in game one of this series. The Orioles really struggled at the plate. They finished the game with just six hits, and they were held scoreless for the majority of the game. Baltimore’s lineup has been terrible throughout the year. They’ve only scored 467 runs this season, which is the seventh-worst in the American League.
Kevin Gausman will get the nod in this matchup with the Rangers. Gausman has had a decent season thus far. He has won two consecutive starts. Most recently, the right-hander pitched 6 scoreless innings in a win over the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg. Gausman only allowed 5 hits in that game, and he fanned 8 batters. The Orioles are hoping that Gausman can continue his excellent play and pick up another win on Saturday.
Rangers top the O’s
The Texas Rangers picked up an impressive 8-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of this series. The Rangers had 10 hits in the win. It was their third consecutive game with 10 or more hits. The Texas lineup has been one of the best in the American League. They’ve scored 498 runs already this season, which is the eighth-most in either league.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx will start this game on the mound. Bibens-Dirkx has been used as a starter and a reliever this season, but recently the Rangers have been using him exclusively for relief duty. This will be ABD’s first start in a month. His last start was a no-decision against the White Sox. Bibens-Dirkx gave up 8 hits and 4 runs in 5 2/3 innings of action against the Sox. ABD still hasn’t lost a game in his rookie season. He’ll look to remain undefeated as he takes on the O’s in this one.
The Baltimore Orioles are:
- 3-8 in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
- 1-4 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- 1-7 in their last 8 during game 2 of a series.
- 4-10 in Gausman’s last 14 road starts vs. a team with a losing record.
The Texas Rangers are:
- 7-0 in their last 7 Saturday games.
- 11-2 in their last 13 during game 2 of a series.
- 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter.
The Rangers have been putting up runs at a ridiculous rate. They’ve averaged nearly 10 runs per game in their last three contests. Kevin Gausman has really struggled in away games this season. He has a 6.90 ERA in 10 starts on the road in 2017. Meanwhile, Austin Bibens-Dirkx has found a way to win games for the Rangers. I think the Texas lineup will carry ABD to the fourth victory of his career on Saturday night in Arlington.
