Hard Rock International has purchased the Taj

By TBMG Poker writer, Linc Terrell

Billionaire investor and current special advisor to President Donald Trump Carl Icahn took over the Taj in 2016 following bankruptcy. Icahn also owned the Trop in Atlantic City and was expected to pour 100 million into the Taj Mahal.

Instead, the Taj closed in October and will wait for Hard Rock rejuvenation. The local union was the major cause of failure, in the end. Employees lost benefits and refused to continue working. No date has been set for the relaunch, yet.

A.C. Mayor Don Guardian had made a public plea for Icahn to sell if he didn’t care to inject the 100 million dollars needed for repairs.

In other Hard Rock news, Ryan Riess added a Seminole Hard Rock WPT Finale title to his WSOP Main Event championship. Riess entered the final table second in chips. Alan Sternberg had the lead and a shot at a 2nd WPT title. Cliff Josephy and Jason Koon were on the pro-filled final table.

Joseph left in 6th place, Koon in 5th. In the end, Alan Sternberg and Ryan Riess were heads up and very deep. The match was expected to be lengthy until Riess 4-bet AKs all-in and Sternberg called off with 77. A K66 flop was followed by a turn King to cement the 2nd part of Riess’ triple crown. A live PokerStars Main Event victory will complete the trifecta for Ryan.
