Tampa Bay Rays (25-25 SU) @ Minnesota Twins (25-18 SU)
MLB: Friday, May 26th, 2017, Target Field
Line: Rays (-130) Twins (+120)
The Rays and Twins will start a fresh series on Friday night at Target Field in Minnesota. Game time is set for 8:10 P.M ET and two top-line starters will be featured, Chris Archer (TB) and Hector Santiago (MIN).
Don’t look now but the Tampa Bay Rays are playing .500 baseball. They are coming off back-to-back wins over the Angels and have won six of their last nine contests. Coming into Friday, they are just five games back of the first-place Yankees.
While the offense is in the middle of the road with a No. 12 rank in runs scored and No. 18 rank in batting average, the pitching staff is one of the top-five units in the league. Overall, the Rays rank 5th in ERA and batting average allowed, led by Friday’s starting pitcher Chris Archer. On the year, Archer leads the team in strikeouts with 77 and has a solid ERA of 3.76.
Unfortunately, Jumbo Diaz recently landed on the DL and will not be available Friday. He has made 21 appearances this year and is one of the Rays’ most reliable guys.
Twins On Fire
Over the last four games, the Twins have been on fire and have gone 4-0. Now, they sit alone atop the AL Central standings and are two games ahead of the defending American League champion Indians.
The Twins are led by Miguel Sano on offense, a guy who has carried the team to their success this year. He has improved his batting average a ton over last season and is developing a lethal power stroke also. On the year, he leads the Twins in batting average (.300), home runs (11), and runs-batted-in (37).
Pitching-wise, they are in the middle of the pack but have one of their best guys going on Friday with lefty Hector Santiago. On the season, Santiago has an ERA of 3.96 but has struggled mightily in his last three outings (6.91 ERA).
- 19-7 in the last 26 meetings in Minnesota.
- 6-2 in their last 8 road games.
This is going to be one of the best games of Friday night, as two very good pitchers will battle against each other. Both guys have sub-4.00 ERA’s and are considered top-of-the-line guys. To me, that means this could definitely be an UNDER game.
First pitch is set for 8:10 P.M ET.
Betting-wise, we’re riding the hot hand with Archer and the Rays. In their last three starts, Archer has pitched must better than Santiago and the Twins are overdue for a loss. The Rays line has great value at (-130) and could be a great opportunity to pad the wallet.
