James Vick is a big favorite vs. Marco Polo Reyes at UFC 211 on Saturday night in Dallas, Texas. Vick is 10-1 in his career and coming off a win against Abel Trujillo, while Vick is 7-3 and coming off a win against Jason Novelli. The bout between Reyes and Vick is one of four on the FX portion of the preliminary card, leading up to the main pay-per-view card, which features Stipe Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos. Let’s look at Reyes vs. Vick and UFC picks.
James Vick -400 vs. Marco Polo Reyes
Vick has only lost once in his career, as he comes into this fight at 9-1 with 44% of his wins coming by submission. He is 6-1 in the UFC and this will be his second fight this year. He has been able to overwhelm all of his opponents except for one with his size and reach. The only loss for Vick came to Beneil Dariush who caught him with a big shot in the first round and knocked him out. Vick bounced back from that defeat to defeat Trujillo.
Reyes is 7-3 in his career and he has won his last four fights. He is 3-0 in the UFC and he has shown some solid knockout power. The problem for Reyes is on the mat, as he has been submitted twice in his career. Reyes was beaten by Horacio Gutierrez at “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America,” which doesn’t officially count as UFC fight, but Reyes came back to win his next three fights, as he beat Cesar Arzamendia, Dong Hyun Kim and Jason Novelli.
The price on Vick is simply too high, but I really can’t make a strong case for Reyes. Vick should be able to get this fight to the mat and when that happens it should be over. I think Vick wins this one, but the price at 4-1 is too high, so I will just take the rounds under.
UFC 211: Miocic vs. dos Santos 2 takes place on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas, with the main event featuring Stipe Miocic defending his UFC heavyweight title against Junior dos Santos.
